This strand focuses on identifying and securing funding for your research from a range of sources and building interdisciplinary research proposals to broaden the potential appeal to a range of funders. Sessions cover identifying funding opportunities from national and international funders, through to developing your ideas into interdisciplinary research projects. They will include facilitated workshops and speakers with knowledge and experience in these areas.

The aim of this day will be to: bring together researchers from different disciplines; expand your ideas to attract interdisciplinary collaborators; identify specific funding calls and opportunities for interdisciplinary projects, including national and international funders; pitch your ideas to collaborators, external partners and funding bodies.

Key objectives that will be covered during this day include: developing your idea into a research proposal or fellowship; aligning it to the research priority areas of the funders – what do they want?; identifying and mitigating the risks of the project; understanding panel procedures and what reviewers are looking for; tips for structuring and writing your research vision, track record and case for support; Q&A with a current Research Council committee member.

The focus of this session will be: how to negotiate contracts and project infrastructure issues with the host institution to ensure project delivery; how will you negotiate terms and contracts with other universities or external partners; examples of common pitfalls and how to avoid them.
